A soldier wrestling with shame over a medal recalls a combat encounter where he and his unit came under heavy enemy fire. After picking targets and squeezing off rounds, his soldier Blanda attempts a retreat but is killed in the assault, prompting the soldier to fight harder. The issue includes an educational article titled "The Hutier Tactics" explaining German military strategy in World War I, followed by another combat story in which a lieutenant seeks an artillery position to support his men against enemy forces.
