This anthology of true war stories contains two main narratives. "Frogmen to the Rescue" depicts the steel-nerved Navy personnel of an underwater demolition team conducting a U.D.T. rescue mission in the Pacific during World War II, following their efforts to assist survivors of a downed aircraft off Saipan in May 1944. "The Bloody Battle for Hill 80" chronicles a tense Korean War engagement in which high school students inadvertently wander into a combat zone, forcing soldiers to hold their position against a sneak attack while weighing the moral question of taking credit for enemy casualties.

**"Kamikaze!"** When 30,000 troops land on a heavily fortified island, they discover a landscape of pillboxes and rock positions—but the real terror comes from the sky as Navy vessels face a devastating kamikaze attack. Following the brutal assault on the light escort carrier *Bismarck Sea*, the Marines press their desperate offensive, scaling the island's highest peak to plant a flag that will become a symbol of resolve. Over three grueling weeks of combat against an enemy determined to fight to the last man, medics risk their lives under murderous fire while the island's defenders launch final, doomed banzai charges.
