Atomic War! #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeA story depicting an atomic war scenario centered on American military defense efforts against a Soviet attack. The narrative follows U.S. military personnel as Detroit's defense installations are destroyed in thirty seconds, including factories, an automobile storage depot, a reservoir, and a defense housing unit, with Lake Erie rising to engulf the stricken city. American servicemen engage Soviet forces in combat, and subsequently American pilots prepare for a military strike, with a commander briefing flight crews for a mission set to launch at zero hour 0400 the next morning before fire breaks out at an airfield hangar.
It's 1960, and peace talks have the nation hopeful—but at the Air Defense Headquarters overlooking Manhattan, a Soviet agent sabotages the radar system to clear a path for incoming Russian bombers. When the deception is discovered, it's already too late: the interceptors are miles away, the city is defenseless, and an atomic bomb is screaming down toward New York.
As atomic artillery rains down on Berlin, a squad of American soldiers led by Jeff must fight their way through a war-torn city now surrounded by Russian forces. When their escape route is cut off, they devise a desperate gamble: commandeering an enemy tank and bluffing their way through Soviet lines. But survival means racing against time and impossible odds to reach Allied territory—all while learning that the attack on Berlin is just the beginning of a far larger catastrophe.
When Russian atom bombs devastate major American cities, a secret Arctic airbase called "the Ice House" receives orders for a desperate counterattack mission against the Urals—but a Soviet saboteur has already infiltrated the base, planting incendiary devices designed to cripple the fighter squadron before it can launch. Racing against the clock and radio silence, the base commander and his men must uncover the saboteur's identity and neutralize the booby-trapped planes before zero hour arrives.
