Paul and Shirley meet when they are stuck in an elevator between floors for three hours. Shirley has just arrived in London to look for a job and doesn't realize Paul is the store owner's son. He can tell from her dress and accent that she is a small-town girl and gets her a job almost as part of a joke and soon forgets her. Shirley can't understand why everyone seems to make fun of her, but then it dawns on her they are all more modern. After two months of transforming herself, she is the one who is in control.
