This October 1964 Charlton war title puts readers right in the thick of it — Sam Glanzman's cover depicts a squad of battle-hardened soldiers surging forward with rifles and bayonets raised, an American flag waving defiantly through the smoke behind them. The grim, determined faces of the GIs fill the foreground with a visceral urgency that Glanzman renders with real conviction. Promising "The Saga of Chicken Company" inside, with a story by Joe Gill, this is grounded wartime comics storytelling at its most direct.
