Volume 9 of Masato Hisa's Area 51 keeps the energy sharp, with this Casterman cover presenting a young woman in a white jacket alongside a towering, sharp-suited figure whose animal-headed silhouette looms dramatically against a bold blue cityscape. The gold star and angular Art Deco styling give the whole composition a confident, noir-tinged flair that's been a hallmark of this series. If you've been following this wildly inventive manga through 2016, volume 9 looks like another compelling chapter in the world Hisa has built.
