The series had a long gestation: Bleeding Cool reported in December 2016 that an Archie/Batman '66 crossover was in development, originally linked to writer Mark Waid, though by the time of the official March 2018 announcement the creative team had shifted to Jeff Parker and Michael Moreci as co-writers. Parker was a natural fit given his extensive prior work on the Batman '66 comic series, while Archie Comics co-president Alex Segura specifically cited that history as the reason for his selection; Moreci was paired with Parker for what Segura described as his 'right sensibility' for the project. Dan Parent, a career-long Archie mainstay and Joe Kubert School graduate who had previously drawn Archie Meets Kiss, was chosen as penciler precisely because his style could function as a visual bridge between both fictional worlds, with J. Bone on inks and Kelly Fitzpatrick on colors completing the art team. Victor Gorelick served as editor, and the first issue shipped July 18, 2018, followed by a second printing with a cover by Dan Parent.
