The entire Judgment Day series was announced on February 14, 2024, with Archie Comics positioning it as the inaugural entry in its newly minted 'Archie Premium Event' publishing format — a designation created to house miniseries stories the publisher considered too expansive for a single one-shot release. Writer Aubrey Sitterson, who had previously collaborated with artist Jed Dougherty on the Archie vs. The World one-shot, brought a deliberate page-design philosophy to the series, treating the physical reading experience — slow, considered, print-oriented — as integral to the storytelling.
