Arcana Studio Presents: The Steam Engines of Oz #1
Arcana Studio's 2013 reimagining of L. Frank Baum's world gets a steampunk makeover in this striking first issue. The cover, penciled and inked by Yannis Roumboulias, places a determined young woman in aviator gear at the center of a tense forest scene, crouched on twisted roots while the shadowy silhouettes of large, prowling feline creatures close in around her. It's a wonderfully atmospheric introduction to a version of Oz where gears and goggles meet dark wilderness, with writing from Sean Patrick O'Reilly and Erik Hendrix promising an adventure that takes the familiar somewhere genuinely unexpected.
