Araña: The Heart of the Spider #4

Part of Marvel's "Marvel Next" initiative of 2005, this fourth issue of Araña: The Heart of the Spider features a cover by penciler Mark Brooks and inker Jaime Mendoza that's hard to look away from — a strip of photo-booth snapshots held between two hands, capturing Araña and Spider-Man goofing around together across four playful frames before the mood shifts to something more urgent in the final panels. The progression from smiling poses to wide-eyed alarm gives the whole image a clever, almost cinematic energy. With Fiona Kai Avery writing and Roger Cruz on interior art, this series brings a fresh, youthful voice to Marvel's spider-corner of the universe.
