Aquaman #27

Aquaman faces an overwhelming threat in this 2014 New 52 entry, as the cover by penciler Paul Pelletier and inker Sean Parsons shows the King of the Seven Seas launching out of the churning surf, trident raised, against a colossal creature whose gaping maw and writhing tentacles loom over an entire cityscape. The sheer scale of the monster dwarfs Aquaman completely, making his defiant charge feel both reckless and heroic. With Jeff Parker scripting and Paul Pelletier and Netho Diaz on interior art, "Life & Death" promises exactly the kind of oceanic spectacle this series does so well.
