The four-issue run of The Adventures of Apocalypse Al reaches its finale with this 2014 Image Comics closer from writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Sid Kotian. The cover presents a striking tableau: a stoic man in a long coat cradling an unconscious woman, both figures standing within the palm of an enormous, ancient-looking hand that rises from a hellish, flame-lit industrial wasteland of towers and cliffs. It's a genuinely arresting image — intimate and monumental at the same time — that makes a strong case for what this miniseries has been up to.
