“Anima Mundi Part Two: The Little Idea That Could”

Subtitled "The Princess, The Shaman King, and The Spider Queen," this August 1995 Vertigo entry in Jerry Prosser, Fred Harper, and Jason Temujin's run on Animal Man carries a distinctly unsettling mood. The cover by Rick Berry and Hannibal King presents a dreamlike, fractured composition — a skeletal, red-haired figure glimpsed within a broken mirror or portal, surrounded by abstract geometric forms, while a clawed golden hand reaches forward from the foreground. It's the kind of psychedelic, mythically charged imagery that defined Vertigo at its most adventurous in the mid-1990s.
