“Wild Type, Part Two: Weekend Safari”

This unsettling April 1995 Vertigo entry subtitled "The Most Dangerous Game…" announces its intent with a cover by Rick Berry that is genuinely hard to shake: a snarling great ape, fur bristling and fangs bared, fused grotesquely with a bare human skeleton below — flesh and bone occupying the same impossible body against a murky, torch-lit forest backdrop. Jerry Prosser, Fred Harper, and Jason Temujin continue "Wild Type" with Part Two: "Weekend Safari," and if Berry's visceral image is any indication, the line between predator and prey — and between human and animal — is about to get very blurry.
