Angel: Barbary Coast #2

This IDW series takes the brooding vampire-with-a-soul into period San Francisco, and Franco Urru's cover for issue #2 captures the tension beautifully — a snarling, fang-bared vampire lunges toward a dark-haired woman in the foreground while a menacing, blade-wielding figure and a chaotic street brawl erupt in the gaslit background. The whole composition is framed like a weathered photograph spattered with blood, giving it an aged, atmospheric quality perfectly suited to the Barbary Coast setting. Urru handles both pencils and inks here, and the result is a cover with real weight and danger to it.
