Angel and the Ape #3

DC's delightfully offbeat humor series hits its stride with this April 1969 issue, cover-penciled and inked by Bob Oksner, whose breezy pop-art linework perfectly captures the book's comedic tone. The cover says it all: a stylishly dressed blonde — Angel — delivers a solid kick to a hapless goon in a narrow hallway, while a second figure lies sprawled in the foreground, with the cheeky speech bubble asking, "When did you first feel that you were threatened, sir?!" It's a fun, punchy snapshot of the series' blend of action and laughs, and with "The Curse of the Avarice Clan!" on the interior docket from writer E. Nelson Bridwell, there's plenty of mischief waiting inside.
