Set in a cold, dimly lit world, the story follows Karl as he navigates the uneasy company of his roommates Delamarche and Robinson, whose quiet parasitism tests his patience and kindness. A glimmer of hope arrives in the form of Grete, the gentle cook at the Occidental Hotel, who offers Karl a chance at stability—though not before he must sever ties with the men who’ve begun to exploit him. The art by Réal Godbout, with inks and lettering by the same hand, delivers a haunting, deliberate pace that lingers in the silence between pages.
