“When He Presses the Button!”

In "When He Presses the Button!", a communist general orders a brutal crackdown on villagers celebrating the new year, deploying a dragon float rigged with machine guns to massacre the crowd. But when the float reaches the parade's center, a real dragon emerges—leaving the soldiers to face a terror they never expected. Joe Orlando's striking art brings this eerie, suspenseful tale to life, while Bill Everett's cover captures the story's chilling climax in bold, dynamic lines.

A communist general decides to make an example of defiant villagers who celebrate the new year against his orders by building a dragon float with machine gunners inside to open fire upon the revelers. When the float gets to the center of the parade another dragon appears which the communist soldiers take to be another float, but it is real and attacks and destroys them, sparing the villagers.
