About this Issue

Amazing Spider-Man #26 (Panini UK, 2023) is an issue of Panini's long-running British reprint anthology, which has served as the primary affordable gateway for UK readers to access Marvel's flagship Spider-Man series for decades. Published in March 2023, it falls within Panini UK's serialisation of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s sixth volume of Amazing Spider-Man — a run that attracted significant attention for radically disrupting Peter Parker's status quo and, later in the year, producing one of the most discussed Marvel story developments of the modern era. As a reprint vehicle, it played a structural role in bringing the Wells/Romita Jr. era to a British audience who might not have access to direct-market US single issues.

History

Panini UK has held the Marvel reprint licence in Britain for decades, publishing fortnightly anthology comics that collect recent American Marvel material for the UK newsstand and subscription market. The Amazing Spider-Man series within this line (the 2021 Panini UK series) reprints issues from Marvel's Vol. 6 run, edited by Brady Webb for the British market and typically running one to two years behind the original US publication schedule. Issue #26 of this Panini series appeared on 23 March 2023.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Published by Panini UK on 23 March 2023 as part of the ongoing British reprint anthology series (Panini UK's Amazing Spider-Man, 2021 series).
  • Reprints material from Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 6 (launched April 2022), the sixth volume of the title and a relaunch timed to Spider-Man's 60th anniversary.
  • The Wells/Romita Jr. Vol. 6 run serialised by this anthology introduced a narrative time-jump mystery — Peter Parker estranged from Mary Jane, working at Oscorp alongside Norman Osborn (now the Gold Goblin) — as its central hook from issue one.
  • John Romita Jr., whose pencil work anchors the reprinted US material, is the son of John Romita Sr., who himself drew many of the defining Amazing Spider-Man stories of the late 1960s and early 1970s, making this a second-generation Romita run on the title.
  • The Wells/Romita Vol. 6 run — the source material for this Panini anthology series — later produced the US Amazing Spider-Man #26 (May 31, 2023), which depicted the in-universe death of Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), one of the most controversial Marvel story events of 2023.
  • The US Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 6 #26 featured a cover deliberately evoking Amazing Spider-Man #121 (1973), the issue in which Gwen Stacy was killed — a deliberate visual and thematic callback that fuelled pre-publication discussion.
  • Kamala Khan's death in the US source run prompted Marvel to publish the companion one-shot Fallen Friend: The Death of Ms. Marvel (July 2023), written by G. Willow Wilson, Saladin Ahmed, and Mark Waid.
  • Panini UK's reprint anthology format typically runs at approximately 48 pages per issue and is distributed via UK newsstand and subscription, making it a different reading format from the US direct-market single issues it collects.
