Military hero David returns to his home town and is reunited with his girlfriend Elaine. David was previously married to Rose, but thinks this was annulled. Learning David intends to run for mayor, Rose reappears and demands money for a divorce (saying she'd lied about the annulment). But David proves she’s lying now, that they are no longer married. He warns Rose to get out and stay out of his life.
