“The Piggy Bank Plot”

Three cartoon characters are living the dream on this delightful January–February 1947 DC humor anthology — a wide-eyed young man in a tuxedo, a cheerful blonde woman, and a heavyset fellow in a pinstripe suit are all sprawled atop a mountain of gold coins, bulging money bags, and stacked bills. Their speech bubbles tell the whole joke: one insists they must be dreaming, while the big guy's punchline — buying hamburgers before they wake up — lands with perfect comic timing. Cover artist Stan Kaye gives the scene a wonderfully expressive energy that sets the tone for the laughs waiting inside, including Thurston Harper's "The Piggy Bank Plot.
