“Ambush at Scarecrow Hills!”

This October/November 1949 DC Western packs genuine tension into every inch of its cover by Alex Toth (pencils) and Frank Giacoia (inks) — a daring young gunfighter shields a woman in a sweeping red dress as a band of armed attackers scrambles over the rocky hillside behind them, pistol raised and outnumbered but refusing to back down. The cover promises two full features across 52 pages: a "Blazing Johnny Thunder Adventure" titled "Ambush at Scarecrow Hills!" and a "Foley of the Fighting Fifth" story, making this a strong sampler of DC's frontier storytelling at its 1949 best.
