About this Collection

This fifth volume of Carlsen Comics' German-language edition of Katsuhiro Otomo's seminal cyberpunk saga continues the story of psychic teenager Tetsuo Shima as his godlike powers spiral out of control in post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo. Collecting the middle chapters of the original manga, it covers the escalating conflict between Tetsuo, his former friend Kaneda, and the shadowy government forces trying to contain the chaos. The volume's title, 'Das Erwachen' (The Awakening), refers to the full unleashing of Tetsuo's devastating abilities.

Akira #5 (1991), published by Carlsen Comics, features the story "Das Erwachen" with writing by Katsuhiro Otomo, Junko Iwamoto-Seebeck, and Jürgen Seebeck, and artwork by Katsuhiro Otomo, who also handled inking. The issue includes color work by Steve Oliff and lettering by Steffen Boiselle, with cover art by Otomo.
