Akira #1
This German-language volume collects the first part of Katsuhiro Otomo's landmark cyberpunk manga series, originally serialized in the 1980s. It follows the story of Kaneda and Tetsuo in a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo, where a secret government project and a mysterious psychic boy named Akira set off a chain of violent events. This edition presents the original black-and-white artwork as Otomo intended, before the later colored versions were released.
A 2000 German-language edition of Akira, published by Carlsen Comics, features the full creative team behind the original manga, with Katsuhiro Otomo credited as writer, artist, and inker, alongside co-writers Junko Iwamoto-Seebeck and Jürgen Seebeck, and lettering by Steffen Boiselle. The cover, also by Otomo, presents the iconic imagery of the series in its original design.
