“The Empress of Saratoga”

In "The Empress of Saratoga," Scottish nobleman Glen Murdogh inherits his family's ancestral castle after the mysterious death of his grandfather—only to be haunted by a talking black raven that whispers cryptic warnings. As he flees to the estate with the bird, he discovers the grounds are already occupied by a shadowy figure known as The Heap, and soon finds himself trapped in a deadly game of survival. Ernest Schroeder handles both pencils and inks for the story, while Dan Zolnerowich delivers the eerie, atmospheric cover.

Scottish nobleman Glen Murdogh is given a talking black Raven, that keeps repeating the man's name and phrase "The last of the clan. Death comes for another man"! Quickly he learns of his grandfather's death from an attorney and that he has inherited old Murdogh Castle. When the raven kills the attorney, Murdogh flees with the bird to his castle, not knowing that The Heap is already on the estate grounds. When Murdogh is transfixed by a witch to mount the highest point of the castle and jump off, the Heap intervenes, saving the young man's life and dispatching the witch/raven.
