“The Meteoric Strata Space Racer”

In "The Meteoric Strata Space Racer," a young man named Artur dreams of building ships that soar beyond the sea, winning a grand prize for his model and earning the chance to design the revolutionary vessel The Albatross. Though the ship is repurposed as a wartime troop carrier and later abandoned to the scrap heap, its legacy stirs something strange in the wreckage—something that refuses to stay buried. Leonard Starr handles both pencils and inks for the story, while Ernest Schroeder brings the cover to life with his distinctive art.

A sea-faring Captain is deeply ashamed of his son, whom he feels will not one day want to assume the family tradition of fisherman. Instead, Artur seems fascinated with ships and carving models of them, one of which wins him the government grand prize, and the opportunity to design a new ship that Artur calls The Albatross. Converted to a troop ship during the war, its hulk later lies resting in the water and is sold for scrap. But the ship seems to have a life of its own, as a scrap dealer and the Heap discover.
