Part three of the "Catspaw Quartet" arrives in this October 1989 entry in DC's Advanced Dungeons & Dragons series, and the cover by Jan Duursema makes an immediate impression — a massive, gape-jawed sea creature looms in the underwater depths, its rows of jagged teeth framing a diminutive adventurer who clutches a small blade and seems perilously close to becoming a meal. The sheer scale contrast between the hulking beast and the lone, determined figure gives the image a delightful sense of high-stakes fantasy peril. With Jeff Grubb writing and Duursema handling both pencils and inks on the interior as well, this is a solidly crafted chapter in one of the more ambitious licensed comics DC produced in the late '80s.
