She turns to his friend Don, a struggling writer she believes she truly loves, only to uncover a truth that shatters her illusions. Written by an unknown hand and illustrated with emotional precision by Mike Sekowsky, with inks by Christopher Rule, the story unfolds with quiet intensity, its cover by Carmine Infantino and Gil Kane capturing the bittersweet tension of a romance that’s as much about self-discovery as it is about choice.

Helen dates George, the son of her wealthy employer, but breaks off their relationship when he proposes marriage: she feels the socio-economic gap between them is too great. Instead, she dates George’s friend Don, a “poor” writer, and falls for him. Helen eventually discovers Don has multiple girlfriends, abandoned his wife and children, and lives on hand-outs from George. Helen goes back to George and agrees to marry him.
