“The Headline Hoax!”

In "The Headline Hoax!", the Rainbow Man, imprisoned and faking illness, manipulates the warden into summoning Vigilante—only to escape disguised as a doctor. Posing as the Mystic Masked Marvel in the Royal Order of Scarlet Tanagars, he orchestrates a grand parade, seizing a jeweled statue with a bold demand that goes unanswered. Vigilante, piecing together a crucial clue, realizes the villain’s new vulnerability—colorblindness—and sets a trap to expose him. Art by Mort Meskin, cover by Wayne Boring and Stan Kaye.

Escaping, he then disguises himself as the Mystic Masked Marvel in the Royal Order of Scarlet Tanagars. At the climax of their parade through the streets, Rainbow Man demands the jeweled statue which is to be presented to their illustrious past president. His imperious manner prevails and he drives away with it. Vigilante sets a trap based on the realization that Rainbow Man is now colorblind.
