“Superman Takes a Holiday!”

In "Superman Takes a Holiday!", the Man of Steel steps back from the spotlight to enjoy a rare break—only to be drawn into a mystery when a series of rain-drenched robberies baffles a small town. When a magician named Zatara investigates a pattern of disappearances tied to stormy weather, he follows the thieves into the sky, uncovering a floating island that crashes down just in time to stop the next crime. With art by Joe Sulman and a striking cover by Jack Burnley and Stan Kaye, this 1944 issue blends mystery and wonder in a story where magic meets the mundane.

Zatara is performing in a small town when he hears a jewelry store owner tell his assistant to get the gems into the vault as it looks like rain. Zatara wants to know the connection, and is told that every robbery in the past three months has occurred during a rain storm. The thieves then vanish without a trace. Walking on, Zatara interrupts a robbery by men who seem to have just appeared from nowhere. They take the elevator to the roof and disappear. Zatara uses magic to walk into the clouds and finds a floating island, which he causes to lands in front of the police station.
