This October 1965 issue of Action Comics presents a striking cover by Curt Swan and Sheldon Moldoff that poses a fascinating "what if" — a powerless Superman, armed with only a sword and a colorful shield, defiantly challenges an unseen foe before a crowd of stunned onlookers. His speech bubble makes the stakes unmistakably clear: stripped of his super-abilities, the Man of Steel refuses to back down, declaring he'll duel to the death. Rounding out the package is a bonus "imaginary" Supergirl story, making this a double dose of Silver Age DC imagination from writer Leo Dorfman and artist Jim Mooney.
