“Superman's Treasure Hoard”

In "Superman's Treasure Hoard," Otto Binder and Jim Mooney deliver a classic 1956 adventure where Tommy and Brent stumble upon an abandoned desert planet and bring back a mysterious machine. When Tommy volunteers to test its unknown rays, he shrinks to microscopic size and discovers the planet’s former inhabitants—now living in a refrigerator on Earth. Wayne Boring’s cover captures the wonder of the discovery, while Mooney’s art brings the journey to life.

Tommy and Brent find an abandoned desert planet which was evidently once home to an advanced civilization. They bring one of the machines found there back to Earth and Tommy volunteers to subject himself to the unknown rays. As a result he begins to shrink, eventually reaching microscopic size, at which point he encounters the inhabitants of the abandoned world, who had deliberately shrunk themselves when their planet could no longer sustain life. Rather than be restored to full size, they opt to live in the Planeteers' refrigerator.
