German-born Chris Ludwick lives in Pennsylvania. Hatching a daring plan, he gets himself captured by the Hessians, who take him for a deserter. While in custody he extols the virtues of Pennsylvanian farmland free to anyone who takes occupation to the soldiers, many of whom are themselves conscripted farmers. This leads to more than two hundred Hessian desertions. General Washington himself congratulates and thanks Ludwick for his efforts.
