In "Mail-Order Magic!" from Action Comics #122 (1948), Jimmy White, inspired by a dazzling performance from Zatara at a basketball game, sets out to master the art of magic. As his tricks grow more ambitious, a mischievous onlooker begins stealing from adults, making it seem like the items vanished—until Zatara intervenes. When a dangerous twist unfolds and one of Zatara’s pursuers turns hostile, Jimmy finds himself stepping into the spotlight to help protect the magician he admires.

Shorty skips out on dish duty and flees to the lake, only to land in trouble when he jumps in to escape a hornet swarm—landing himself in jail for trespassing. Forced to pay a five-dollar fine, he ends up back where he started, scrubbing dishes to make it right.
