Absolute Carnage #3

Ryan Stegman and JP Mayer's cover for issue #3 says everything about the scale of Carnage's threat: a monstrous, spiral-eyed Carnage looms at center, his massive jaws open wide while a tide of red symbiote tendrils engulfs heroes on every side — Captain America, Spider-Man, Venom, the Thing, and several others are visible, caught and overwhelmed in the churning crimson mass. Donny Cates's 2019 event series has been building toward something this big, and this image makes clear that no one — not the Avengers, not Marvel's heaviest hitters — is beyond Carnage's reach. Frank Martin's deep reds and shadows give the whole composition a genuinely unsettling weight that matches the series' ambitions.
