"Abbie and Slats" follows a young man preparing for a spring dance who encounters a mysterious figure at night. After the apparition reveals itself to be Evergreen Bones, a ghost from a tasket school, the protagonist learns he must help retrieve something. The story escalates when Madame Pompador boards a ship and later meets with a new French teacher named Melvin Moxie at a railway station, leading to a chaotic chase involving a stolen bride and a Justice of the Peace, culminating in a frantic automobile pursuit through the countryside.
