A Contract with God #[nn]

This centennial edition of Will Eisner's *A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories* arrives in a handsome package befitting one of comics' most enduring works. The cover image is striking in its raw emotion — a weathered, anguished figure raises both arms skyward, one fist clenched and the other clutching what appears to be a book or tablet, mouth open in a cry of grief or defiance. Eisner's expressive linework gives the figure a visceral, almost sculptural weight, and with an introduction by Scott McCloud, this 2017 Norton centennial edition is a welcome way to experience these tenement stories in a beautifully considered format.
