23 h 72 #[nn]
Published by Pow Pow in 2014, this French-language graphic work from Blonk announces itself with a wonderfully unsettling cover: a suited, X-eyed figure with an elongated, stitched head sits at a dinner table — fork and knife in hand, a plated steak in front of him — while an enormous graveyard packed with crosses and tombstones stretches out behind him beneath a lurid purple-and-red sky and a looming full moon. The flat, bold color palette and deadpan grotesquerie give the whole scene a darkly comic charm that's genuinely hard to look away from. If you enjoy comics that wear their strange sense of humor right on the cover, *23 h 72* looks like a very promising late-night read.
