This prog from Rebellion's long-running British anthology is dressed up as a sinister pub sign — a stern, square-jawed man clutching a shotgun and a cleaver stares out from an ornate framed board labeled "The Butcher's Hook," suspended by heavy chains. The burst promising "Volgans Get Free Shots!" gives the whole image a darkly comic edge that only 2000 AD can pull off with such straight-faced menace. Cover pencils and inks by Tom Foster make this 2016 issue a genuinely striking piece of anthology storytelling before you've even cracked the spine.
