A massive, leering clown face dominates this 2006 cover of 2000 AD Prog 1481, its grotesque grin stretching ear to ear while two terrified human faces — presumably Bec and Kawl — peer out from within its hollow eyes in pure, wide-mouthed horror. The cover copy asks point-blank: "Can Bec & Kawl Survive the Killing Joke?" — a question Steve Roberts's deeply unsettling cover art makes feel genuinely precarious. It's the kind of image that makes you glad you're holding the comic and not trapped inside it.
