The third volume of Corbeyran and Le Roux's WWI series brings us to January 1915, subtitled "Op het veld van eer" — on the field of honor. Le Roux's cover assembles a weary but resolute group of seven soldiers in blue-grey greatcoats, armed with pickaxes and shovels, posing against a muddy trench landscape where more figures move in the distant haze. There's a lived-in humanity to every face here, making this Dutch-language edition from Daedalus a compelling entry in what is clearly a grounded, soldier's-eye view of the Great War.
