This March 1928 issue of Weird Tales features "The Strange People," a three-part serial by Murray Leinster beginning on page 293. Cunningham, a desk clerk who inherits $50,000, travels to rural New Hampshire to find Maria, a girl from a photograph in the Geographic Magazine. The article that inspired his quest describes a mysterious group of 200 people of unknown origin who appeared two years prior, spoke perfect English, paid for land in raw gold, and violently avoided contact with outsiders. En route by train, Cunningham meets Gray, a fellow traveler seeking the same settlement. A well-dressed foreigner aboard the train becomes enraged reading the same article. When a stranger of the same strange people boards the train, the foreigner pursues him in terror. The issue also contains Robert E. Howard's "The Hyena," August Derleth's "The Tenant," G. G. Pendarves' "The Eighth Green Man," and reprints Washington Irving's "The Legend of the Moor's Legacy."
