This issue contains the first installment of "It Came Out of Egypt," a six-part mystery serial by Sax Rohmer, author of Dr. Fu-Manchu. Robert Cairn, a London journalist recovering from nervous collapse allegedly caused by experiences involving a dangerous figure named Antony Ferrara, arrives in Cairo on doctor's orders for convalescence. There he reunites with his Oxford acquaintance Sime, a medical officer attached to an archaeological expedition. Rumors circulate among natives that a supernatural being called an afreet has entered Egypt from the Sahara, bringing with it the unseasonable khamsin wind. Cairn theorizes about the power of concentrated collective thought while discussing the phenomenon with Sime. The installment concludes with both men attending a masquerade carnival at their hotel.
Each page has its own page — the cartoon, who’s in it, and what the satire means.
