This issue features "Father Was Right," a comedic business story by Henry Payson Dowst. The narrative chronicles the Bosworth Press, a large printing establishment founded by Hiram Bosworth, who built his enterprise from humble New Hampshire origins into a major industrial operation producing millions of printed sheets. After suffering nervous prostration, Bosworth retired for five years, leaving the business under management by his son Philip (production manager) and general manager Leach Curdy, with representation from workers on the board of directors. The story centers on office dynamics at Bosworth Press, particularly the relationship between Philip, the competent but somewhat deferential young production manager; Leach Curdy, the cold and domineering general manager; and Desire Brown, Philip's attractive and capable secretary-turned-love-interest who suspects Curdy's integrity. When the rejuvenated and health-restored Hiram unexpectedly returns to the office after five years away, his reappearance sets up the central conflict.
