About this issue

This inaugural issue of New Worlds Science Fiction features seven science fiction stories by established genre authors. "Visitor at Large," a short novel by James White, occupies the opening pages and concerns Dr. Conway, who guides Dr. Prilicla (an insectoid alien from low-gravity Cinruss) through Sector General, a multi-environment space hospital treating exotic alien species. The hospital is admitting an SRTT-class patient—an amorphous, adaptable alien literally liquefying despite treatment attempts—which prompts unusual access relaxation at the facility. Additional stories include Kenneth Bulmer's "The Gentle Approach," E. Henley's "Strange Menhir," Francis G. Rayer's "Sands Our Abode," Robert Presslie's "Another Word for Man," Stephen Lloyd's "Flying Saucer of the Seas," Colin Kapp's "Calling Mr. Francis," and Stephen Bond's "The Forgotten Ones." The issue also includes standard period advertising, particularly for correspondence-course crime detection training.
