About this issue

This issue features five science fiction stories spanning different lengths and genres. The lead serial is "Equator" Part One by Brian W. Aldiss, which establishes an unconventional first-contact scenario: Earth peacefully offers sanctuary to inhabitants of a generation starship seeking a habitable world, exploring whether human-alien coexistence is possible. John Wyndham's novelette "Space Is A Province of Brazil" appears as the issue's extended fiction. Three shorter works round out the fiction content: "Morgan's Galatea" by Clifford C. Reed, "Trainee for Mars" by Harry Harrison, and "Life Hutch" by Harlan Ellison. Non-fiction includes a profile of Clifford C. Reed, South African-born author and engineer living in London, and the third installment of Kenneth Johns's article "Outbound Bound." Editor John Carnell's editorial discusses Edmund Crispin's definition of science fiction's philosophical orientation toward depicting humanity within a cosmos of forces greater than itself.
