This June 1962 issue of Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine features the short novel "The Scarlet Box" by Patrick Quentin, set in Rome during tourist season where ancient intrigue and murder intersect. The lead novelet, "The Murder Stamps" by Brett Halliday, concerns detective Mike Shayne investigating mysterious poison-pen letters circulating on exclusive Ocean Cay. Glenn Platt, a real estate developer, hires Shayne after his anxious fiancée Alma Schlagle receives threatening correspondence containing intimate, malicious information. Despite local police involvement over six months, the letter writer remains unidentified. Shayne suspects blackmail may be the ultimate aim. The issue also contains short stories including "My Best False Friend" by Lew Lipton, "Night Duty" by Martin Suto, "Dust to Dust" by Aubrey Cash, "The Crocodile Dressing Case" by Roy Vickers, "A Matter of Honor," "The Dry Well" by Peter Kennedy, and others.
