This issue of Gunsmoke Western (April 1947, Vol. 3, No. 3) contains eleven complete novelettes and short stories. Featured tales include Henry Malcolm's "Give Him a Gun," about Hackett attempting to stop a hanging; Joe McCoy's "Toughen Up," involving gun-armed men doubting a medicine-show doctor; and Emerson Blackwell's "Rough Buckaroo," where McArthur risks death through involvement in a holdup. Additional stories by Laurence Donovan, Rory Wade Stanley, Andrew Garrison, Clark Holm, Paul Hanna, Mel Davis, Lewis Bradford, and Larry Keating explore typical Western themes of gunfights, robbery, and survival. The issue also includes "Fort Whoop-Up," a nonfiction historical article by John Latane about Johnny Healy's infamous whiskey trading post in Alberta during the 1870s, and mentions of other Western fact features.
Each page has its own page — the cartoon, who’s in it, and what the satire means.
