This issue of Future Science Fiction, edited by Robert W. Lowndes, contains five science fiction stories. The featured novelette is Randall Garrett's "The Wayward Course," which involves a woman who appears inexplicably to be three thousand years old. Sam Merwin Jr.'s serial "Wampum" concerns a man who recognizes danger in a mysterious "playboy invasion." Short stories include Dave Dryfoos's "The Old-Fashioned Spaceman," where protagonist Myron makes history unexpectedly; Eando Binder's "The Payoff," featuring characters on an important but unclear mission; and Stephen Arr's "The Square Peg," about a man named Al Rogers regarded as savage by twenty-third-century society. Regular departments include editorial commentary by Lowndes, book reviews by Damon Knight and L. Jerome Stanton, fan magazine coverage by Robert A. Madle, and reader preference voting.
