About this issue

This issue of what appears to be a science fiction pulp magazine contains several works of short fiction and miscellaneous content: "The War of the Moons," a complete novel by Walter Gibson, leads the issue—a space adventure about planetary conflict. The story concerns the spaceliner Xanadu and its passengers witnessing the bombing of Japetus, capital of one moon, during a war between celestial bodies, particularly Titan's rebellion against the Grand Solar Alliance. Protagonist Len Ryder, a spaceman with knowledge of Titanese language and culture, explains the conflict to a fellow passenger, Mira Dale, while the ship accelerates toward Phoebe. Also featured: "Spider Men and the Cakes" by Bruce Crandall, "She Was a Creature of Fire and Death" by Wallace Smith (about Mattie Hawks selling her soul), "He Wouldn't Die" by George Moffat (concerning a bulletproof man), "The Murder Machine" by Phyllis Keye, and "Think Ahead" by Larry Hennessey. Additional content includes a science article "Speeds Through Space" discussing interplanetary travel requirements and escape velocities, and "Science Fiction on Parade."
